Make March Count, Get Healthy!
The best way for elected leaders in South Carolina to fight obesity is not more government mandates, but to lead by example. That is why Representative Bakari Sellers is announcing his “Healthy March” initiative.
"Healthy March" is a statewide grassroots movement, led by Bakari Sellers, to increase awareness about obesity issues and encourage personal improvement. People from across South Carolina can help each other get healthy, by getting healthy themselves. The goal: Spend the month of March committing to:
“I’m excited to bring people together around such a great cause – fighting obesity,”
Share your stories on the Healthy March blog by clicking below and hold your friends, family, and co-workers accountable to stay true to the challenge. On March 4th we launched HealthyMarch.com where citizens across South Carolina can share stories about how they are getting healthier. Folks can share healthy recipe ideas, exercise routines, and even admit when they fall off the wagon.
Rep. Sellers will participate in the challenge, as well as blog his stories. The catch? Every time someone cheats on his or her healthy challenge, they must donate to the Healthy March fund. It can be 50 cents, a dollar, or five dollars. At the end of the month, Health March Challenge fund will donate all proceeds to Harvest Hope Food Bank to help feed struggling South Carolinians.
The Healthy March community will serve as a support group, but also to hold each other accountable. “I will be participating and challenging my friends, families, and co-workers to take part in the Healthy March challenge.” “Getting healthy by yourself can be difficult. But when you have an encouraging support group who you can talk to, share stories with, and learn from, it makes getting healthy fun and a lot easier.”
